Chinese New Year Festival.
Glanfa Stage, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay.
Sunday 6 February 2011, 1:00pm - 5:00pm.
BVSNW and Multicultural Development Consultancy are again working with the local Chinese community to present the celebration for Chinese New Year 2011 - The year of the Rabbit. Last year we attracted over 5,000 people from throughout Wales on the day and this Sunday we hope to surpass this.
The event showcases Chinese Folk Custom Arts, which combines workshops, displays, parades, exhibitions, Circus performances, Kite making demonstrations and stage performances that will take place over a four hour period. The stage performances represent a comprehensive pattern of Chinese music, opera, and dancing. With 5000 years of history to celebrate, the importance of this event will be fully celebrated and appreciated by the local community and beyond.
In the UK, Chinese New Year Celebrations are the most important cultural activity for local Chinese populations. As the largest Chinese community in Europe, the London Chinese community holds the celebration in the area around Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Chinatown (Soho) every year. Many thousands of people attend to enjoy the free events throughout the afternoon.
This event is free and suitable for all the family.
