Help Yourself: The Expert Patient Programme
(6 week course).

This is a FREE NHS Self-Management course for people living with a long term health condition and for carers. On this six week course you will learn how to Plan and motivate yourself; how to breathe and relax; improve pain levels and how to solve problems.

You will learn how to cope better with:

  • Tiredness
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Loneliness
  • Fear
  • Anger
  • Frustration
  • Exercise
  • Healthy Eating

Mature Driver Refresher Seminar.

Cardiff Council Road Safety Centre, Crown Way,

Are you over 55 and finding driving stressful at times?

Cardiff Council's Road Safety Unit, in conjunction with the Cardiff Group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, is organising a number of FREE Mature Driver Refresher seminars to be held at the Road Safety Centre at Maindy during 2011. The seminar is designed to enable mature drivers to improve their existing practical skills and to help them cope with the growing demands of modern traffic conditions.

There are 18 places are available on each course and will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. Topics will include: the effects of speed, stopping distances, dealing with junctions and roundabouts, driver observation, accident causation, health and a fun Highway Code quiz.

UWIC CPPD Widening Access courses 2011:
Getting your message across – Using Text and Style (3 sessions).

Michaelston Adult Centre, Ely, Cardiff.
Starting Thursday 21 January 2011, 10:00am - 3:00pm.

Words are familiar to us all, especially in today's media-saturated society. This course will give you the opportunity to understand and harness some of the basic techniques for expression through type, which could be applied to the creation of posters, leaflets, C.V.'s, websites, letterheads, etc.

You will learn to understand typography in relation to your own life and uses, and build your skills in design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, or freeware equivalents, as well as scanning and image manipulation. You will see the creative use of freeware programs available to all, and commonly used programs such as Word, to ensure that you can develop your technical skills and practice within and outside of the course.

Breast Cancer Care: Living with Secondary Breast Cancer Course (2 days).

Cardiff.

Living with secondary breast cancer If you would like to meet other women with secondary breast cancer and gain relevant information and support, our free two-day course in Cardiff is for you. Breast Cancer Care is here for anyone affected by Breast Cancer.

We bring people together, provide information and support, and campaign for improved standards of care. We use our understanding of people's experience of breast cancer and our clinical expertise in everything we do. All our services are free. This course is for anyone diagnosed with secondary breast cancer (breast cancer that has spread to another part of the body).

Drawing - Outside the Box.

Starting Monday 31 January - Friday 4 February 2011, 10:00am - 3:00pm (running for 1 week).

This course will introduce you to contemporary drawing techniques that enable you to find new ways of looking at your subject. By engaging your senses (touch, smell etc) it will help you to gain a personal understanding of your subject. You will undertake exciting exercises and use a range of materials including charcoal, pencil and chalk to create work.

This course will focus on the style of the individual and there will be lots of personal feedback from the tutor. We will also work on developing sketchbooks and this will add to the development of your personal visual language. Anyone can draw! Come along and see for yourself just what you can achieve!

You can bring a range of paper, sketchbooks, charcoal, pencils, pens, an eraser, and any other materials you wish to experiment with. The tutor will also bring paper and other materials that can be purchased during the course.
