Awetu are raising awareness of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) mental health issues in Wales through a series of seven events across the seven health boards. The aim is to provide a forum where people can share their views and experiences, and explore ideas to improve the current situation. The information and suggestions that are gathered will help shape a plan of action for the health board in each area.
The events are free and will include keynote speakers, workshops, discussion, networking, food and Refreshments.

Healthy Ageing
Making Homes Warmer & Healthier to Live in.
Committee Room 2, Civic Offices, Holton Road, Barry.
Tuesday 21st September 2010, 10:00am - 3:00pm
(lunch will be provided).
This will be an information-packed day to learn how to advise older people on how they can make their homes energy efficient and take action to reduce their energy bills and save money. The course is for anyone who has regular direct contact with older people through their work with community groups, voluntary services, tenants associations, care workers, social care & housing officers, Disability Action Groups, charitable organisations etc. .
The course will cover:
- How to read your gas and electric meters
- How to switch gas and electric suppliers
- Advice on how to pay for your gas and electric bills
- Low cost, no cost ways to save money
- Ways of improving the insulation of a home
- Up-to-date information about the grants, funding and support available for energy efficiency measures and heating systems
- How lack of heating in the home impacts on people's health
- Identifying causes of condensation & dampness, and action to take.
The course is free of charge, but spaces are limited so please reserve a place completing and returning the form overleaf. At this conference delegates will have the opportunity for networking with staff working with older people, and to contribute to the discussions and debates on innovative ways to promote active and healthy ageing, and highlighting best practice and current policy initiatives.

The lecture will be preceded by the reading of a poem specially written to celebrate United Nations older Persons' Day by Gillian Clarke, National Poet of Wales.

Welsh NHS Confederation: Embracing the challenges - changing conditions.

A collaboration between the Welsh Assembly Government, Welsh NHS Confederation, National Leadership and Innovation Agency for Healthcare (NLIAH) and Public Health Wales, this international conference demonstrates the unique integrated approach to health and social care in Wales. The focus is on managing chronic conditions; prevention, delivery and sustainable solutions for adding living to life.
