Healthy Eating

Local Event

Food Safety Week.

Wales, UK.

Monday 6 - Sunday 12 June 2011.

Food Safety Week will be held from 6 - 12 June. The overall theme of the week will be around the 'fact or fiction' of common food hygiene practices in the kitchen that seem to have become accepted over the years - such as why you really shouldn't wash poultry - and also more general food safety myths such as food poisoning being caused by the last meal you ate.

The Food Standards Agency will be working with the media, local authorities and other partners to bring these messages to the public. If you would like to be kept informed directly of the campaign developments, you can register your details at: foodsafetyweek@ecgroup.co.uk including 'Register' in the subject line.

Local Event

Training:
Mental Health First Aid (Wales).

CVCDP Offices, 3rd Floor, Alexandra House,
307 - 315 Cowbridge Rd East, CF5 1JD.
Monday 4 - 5 Tuesday April 2011.

Course Instructor: Bethan Roberts.

This 12 hour Mental Health First Aid (Wales) course is part of the national training programme for Wales and its partners include the Welsh Assembly Government, Health Challenge Wales and Mind Cymru. Comparisons can be drawn between Mental Health First Aid and Emergency First Aid. In both cases members of the public can offer immediate aid and support the person to get appropriate help. Mental Health First Aid improves mental health literacy and helps people to recognise the signs and symptoms of someone with mental health problems; to respond to various mental health Mental Health First Aid 5 crises, engage with, support and signpost people to appropriate professional help.

Cost: £110 per person.

If you would like further information or to book a place on this course, please contact Niccy at Cardiff and Vale Coalition of Disabled People. She can provide the relevant information and send a booking form for you to complete. E-mail: training@cvcdp.org or Tel: 029 2036 8888.

Local Event

Journeys:
Mental Health First Aid.

Journeys' office, Alexandra Gate Business Park,
2 Alexandra Gate, Ffordd Pengam, Cardiff, CF24 2SA.

Thursday 7 - Friday 8 April 2011, 9:30am - 4:30pm.
Wednesday 8 - Thursday 9 June 2011, 9:30am - 4:30pm.
Monday 11 - Tuesday 12 July 2011, 9:30am - 4:30pm.

If someone were experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem, would you know what to do? MHFA is similar to Emergency First Aid - in both cases members of the general public can offer immediate aid and support a person to get the help that they need.

MHFA saves and improves lives. Just as with accidents and medical emergencies, responding quickly and appropriately to a person developing mental health problems or in crisis often prevents the situation from worsening and determines how quickly they get help and/or recover.

Lunch will be provided. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and a copy of the MHFA manual.

Cost: £75.00 per person.
